TargetPro
4 is an entirely re-built version of MapInfo Corporation's flagship software
for demographic analysis, customer profiling, and site selection. It
is available in distinct versions for the US, Canada, and major European
states. Revision 4
is the first significant revision to the TargetPro 4 product line and began
shipping in mid-2003.
TargetPro 4 is an analyst's tool. It is used by
business and government to make fact-based decisions about marketing, branching,
advertising, site selection, mergers-and-acquisition, and business planning.
TargetPro 4 answers questions such as the following:
What are the age, income and other lifestyle characteristics
of households in my market area?
What businesses are in my trade area? Where are they
concentrated?
What are the likely characteristics of my customer base?
Where are concentrations of other people similar to those
who are now my customers?
What is the demographic profile of people living near each
company branch or store?
What is the demographic profile of people within 20 minutes
driving time of each branch or store?
Of several alternative new sites, which is situated near the
most customers?
Expanding or downsizing your dealer or
retail store network?
Use TargetPro to:
Analyze characteristics of the most
profitable current customers. Benefit: Leverage your current success; avoid unprofitable customers.
Identify concentrations of similar
households in expansion markets. Benefit: Select expansion markets where you are most likely to succeed.
Prepare lists of zip codes or block groups
for targeted direct mail, billboards, or other media. Benefit: Save money by not mailing to areas unlikely to produce customers.
Compare alternative locations proposed by
your real estate broker. Benefit: A demographic profile of each site, prepared in just a few minutes,
allows you to act quickly based on the facts.
Need more effective branch
managers or dealers?
Use TargetPro to:
Provide trade area maps & reports to
branch managers. Benefit: Managers who understand their trade areas and markets are more
effective & efficient.
Provide branch-specific product or
stocking suggestions, based on what households are likely to buy. Benefit: Higher inventory turns; fewer out-of-stock/over-stocks; higher sales
overall.
Distribute TargetPro-produced maps
illustrating sales-per-household. Benefit: More motivated managers and branch staff. Better informed management.
Considering an acquisition or
merger?
Use TargetPro to:
Analyze demographic characteristics of
target network, store-by-store or branch-by-branch. Benefit: Acquire only those stores where you will be profitable.
Buying or selling advertising?
Use TargetPro to:
Compute households within likely driving distance of each
branch. Benefit: More precise and, therefore, more cost-effective media buys
(pre-prints, direct mail, & direct marketing).
Profile businesses & households within the coverage zone
for print/poster/radio/TV media. Benefit: Select appropriate media for marketing campaign.

related boundaries.
High-resolution zip code boundaries (2002a
ed.) and major roads/highways.
Easier to use:
Seamlessly integrated with MapInfo Pro.
Previously, MapInfo Pro and TargetPro
were two distinct programs. TargetPro was used to extract the selected data and
create non-map reports. Separately, MapInfo was used to map the results.
Point-and-click on map to define trade
area or other analysis zones or use traditional drop-down lists (rings, etc.)
Previously, users specified analysis
areas only via drop-down lists or, alternatively, made custom trade areas outside of
TargetPro altogether.
All-in-one demographic analysis and
(optional) cluster/segmentation analysis.
Previously, cluster/segmentation
analysis was a separate program.
All windows are re-sizeable.
Not so in previous releases.
Enhancements/inclusions:
Blend your own data with standard demographic variables,
using the built-in wizard.
Previously, your own data could be incorporated within the TargetPro
interface only via custom processing performed by TargetPro developers.
MapInfo Pro license included with each TargetPro client
license.
Previously, MapInfo Pro was licensed separately at extra cost.
Crystal Decisions report writer now included.
Previously, reports could be customized by manually editing report
definition file. The new industry-standard Crystal reports module is much more
full-featured.
New always-on layer control and "Key" map.
Not included in previous versions.
Open database format enables industry-standard connections
between TargetPro tables and other databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.
Previously, all TargetPro data was stored in a compressed proprietary
format.
Custom variable-builder wizard, lets you formulate composite
variables on the fly.
Not available in previous releases.
Single setup program installs MapInfo Pro, TargetPro, and
MapMarker geocoder.
Previously, each program was installed separately.
"Publish to web" option, using MapInfo's
"Discovery" web map interface.
Previously unavailable. MapInfo Discovery is a
separate product with separate license costs..
New client-server software architecture allows multiple-user
simultaneous access to same data files and same custom report formats.
Previously, data sharing was difficult.
Industry-standard database format (SQL Server) means
replication, import/export, and other standard system tools can be used.
Previously, proprietary data format prevented use of standard tools.
Simplified web-integration, due to client-server
architecture and new developer API (to be released late 2002).
Previously, developer API was available but software components not
optimized for multi-user highly-scaleable applications.
Rev. 4 no longer uses
the proprietary compressed data format of the TargetPro 3.x family. As a result, queries operate more slowly, and more disk space is required.
License
costs depend on many factors including, e.g., number of states or regions covered,
number of users, the data sets licensed, data upgrade subscription term, and the power of
the servers where TargetPro's server components are installed.
