The free version of Acrobat Reader has a built-in ability to turn PDF layers "On" and
"Off". Map-based PDF's aren't automatically structured into
layers, however. To create layered PDFs, the map software (not the Adobe software) must create
the PDF's in a particular way: one that preserves map layers as PDF
Professional v10.0 does this.
Can't afford Adobe Acrobat or PDF Writer? With v10, a paid license to
Acrobat is not required.
Already distributing maps in PDF form? With v10, you probably can create
fewer versions. E.g. create one PDF with many layers, then let
different departments turn map layers "On" as needed.
The v9.5 Layer Control is a dialog box you must put
away before continuing your work. In v10, the Layer Control is a
floating and dockable window. Leave it open
throughout your session, if you choose.
