MapInfo Pro 7.0 is MapInfo Corp's flagship map analysis software for the desktop.  It began shipping in June 2002. 

The most important new features of Rev 7 are:

• WindowsXP logo certification.
• Read/display more file formats including direct display of Shapefile-format maps.
• Map object editing enhancements:  rotate, proximal (voronoi) polygons, split-using-line.
• Fine-tune object positions by nudging using arrow keys.
• Updated Crystal Reports (Rev 8.5)
• Optional extensions:
  -- MapInfo Pro for SQL Server (RDBMS spatial warehouse) &
  -- MapInfo Discovery (web map system with site creation wizard).

MapInfo Pro's price, at US$1495 (1-user license), is unchanged.  MapInfo Pro upgrade costs begin at $595

Windows XP compatibility:

• MapInfo Pro 7 is the first XP-certified version.
• Compatible with both XP Pro & XP Home.  
• Still compatible with Windows 2000, Windows NT 4 and, even, Windows 98. 

File format improvements:

• Display Shapefile maps, without translation.
• Display and export windows using the new JPEG2000 wavelet compression format.
• Exporting maps as JPEG already?  Now you can set the degree of JPEG compression.
• Want more control over the pixel-resolution of windows exported as JPEG, TIF, etc?  With 7.0 you can set pixel resolution explicitly.

• Split regions using lines or polylines (not just regions).
• Rotate regions.
• Use the new proximal area ("voronoi") menu option to, for example, associate your customers, patients, events or other points with the nearest store or other outlet.
• Fine-tune shapes on the map using the arrow-keys to 'nudge' the nodes.

User interface improvements:

• Use a single "File > Open" dialog to open tables, workspaces, and/or remote databases.
• Direct output to a new map layer when, e.g., running Table > Combine Objects using Columns.

• Crystal Reports 8.5 now included.
• Universal Translator Shapefile module now reads map projection information from source file.

New optional modules:

For upgrades and support orders, please have your serial #'s handy, as it is required by MapInfo Corp.  The serial number typically begins with "W" followed by 9-digits:  eg. "W650812345" and is usually listed in the MapInfo > Help > About dialog box.

The evaluation version is engineered to let you fully test MapInfo Pro's features.  It will stop working 20 days after installation, so please install it when you have the time to use it thoroughly.

Like many evaluation copies, altering the system clock causes the evaluation period to expire immediately. Once the evaluation version has expired, you will not be able to re-install a new Evaluation copy on the same machine. You need to explicitly Uninstall the Evaluation copy before installing a fully licensed version.
