  Overview

Have you ever wanted to share a workspace with a colleague, but could not because they had a different directory structure or did not have the data on their machine?  With SGSI's WorkspaceArchiver, you can easily zip up your workspace and all associated tables, allowing the workspace to be opened on any machine without a hassle.

Workspace Archiver is a tool for MapInfo which facilitates moving workspaces created in MapInfo from one computer to another. This utility will read the .wor file associated
with a workspace, retrieve the files referenced within that workspace, then strip the paths off. The archiver then places each file into a .zip archive, compressed and ready be re-opened. A new .wor file is placed by the utility into the .zip archive, open this workspace from MapInfo after unzipping it to an empty directory.

WorkspaceArchiver is installed as a separate menu option within MapInfo Pro, so it is always available when you need it.

    Features

Easy installation:

Install the SGSIwsarch.MBX to your desired directory using the WorkspaceArchiver Setup.exe, and use the MapInfo Pro menu to load it into your MapInfo "Tools" menu:

MapInfo Pro 6.0 or earlier:
File > Run MapBasic program ...

MapInfo Pro 6.5 or higher:
Tools > Run MapBasic program ...

Launch WorkspaceArchiver via the MapInfo Pro menu:

All standard features of MapInfo Pro remain enabled including map layering, data-driven (thematic) mapping, and map data editing.

WorkspaceArchiver can be automatically installed, each time you start MapInfo Pro. To do this, use Tools > Tool Manager to add WorkspaceArchiver to the Tool Manager list.

Settings and Operation:

Once WorkspaceArchiver is started, the output directory and filename must be selected.

Note: Depending on the files accessed by the workspace, the output file can be very large.  Make sure your output directory has adequate disk space.

Next, select the workspace that you wish to archive.

Note: The workspace does not need to be opened in MapInfo for WorkspaceArchiver to work.

A message informs the user of the number and size of files referenced by the Workspace, and asks if the process should continue.

Once the archiving begins, the status of the process is displayed.

After the process is complete, a message notifies the user that Archiver successfully generated the file, and gives the compressed file size.

To view the workspace, unzip the archive file on any machine, and open the workspace in MapInfo as you normally would.
